Saarbrucken, where Josephine was born, is only 12 miles NW

This is a history of Joseph and Elisabeth Marie Schneider Koch, who came to America on December 4, 1893, from Sarreinsming in the Lorraine area of France (also known as Lothringen in German). The family settled in Alton, Iowa in 1894, and most of them stayed in northwest corner of Iowa or southwest Minnesota. Family names include Sanford, Wiltgen, Ahlers, Dirckx, Raymond, Rattray.
